Man gets death penalty in Kishoreganj

A court has sentenced one person to death, one to life imprisonment and two to 10 years in prison in a murder case in Kuliyarchar of Kishoreganj district. 

The convicts sentenced to death and life imprisonment have been fined one lakh taka and one accused has been acquitted as the allegations have not been proved. 

Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim handed down the verdict at 10:30 am on Thursday (August 27). Abu Taher was sentenced to death. 

He is the son of Haji Insaf Uddin of Madhya Gobria village in Kuliyarchar upazila. Sirajul Islam was sentenced to life imprisonment. 

The convicts sentenced to 10 years are Mizanur Rahman and Nazrul Islam. They are all residents of  Gubaria village in Kuliyarchar upazila.

According to the details of the case, Abu Taher's men hacked Jamela to death with an ax at around 3:30 am on March 18, 2008 over a land dispute in Gubaria village of Kuliyarchar upazila in Kishoreganj. Parsha Begum, sister of the deceased's husband, filed a murder case with the Kuliyarchar police station the next day, naming 12 people. CID investigating officer Kazi Kamal filed a chargesheet against the five on March 11, 2011.
