Man gets 7 years for cyber offence in Natore

A trial court on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to seven years behind the bar on charge of his involvement in cyber offence in Natore district around eight years back.

The court also fined convict Asim Shayam Das, a resident of Lalbazar area in Natore, Taka five lakh, in default, to suffer six months more in jail. Rajshahi Divisional Cyber Tribunal Judge Ziaur Rahman found the accused guilty of the charge and handed down the verdict this noon with presence of the convict in the court.

Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Ismat Ara told the journalists that a case had been lodged with Natore Sadar Police Station against Asim Shayam Das related to his involvement in 

cyber crimes.

Referring to the prosecution story, Ismat Ara said the man posted some objectionable and insulting photos of a nearby college girl on social media in May, 2014. 

Subsequently, he demanded Taka 50,000 from her parents after showing the photos.

Upon completion of investigation police pressed charges against him.

After examining recorded depositions of the prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the tribunal pronounced the verdict.
