Man fined for killing wild animals

Following complaints through social media, police arrested one person in connection with the killing of wild animals in Kaliganj Upazila of Satkhira district on Friday.

Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of the Media and Publication Wing of the Police Headquarters Mir Sohel Rana confirmed the matter to Bangladesh Post.

The arrested person was identified as Md Saiful Islam, who had been killing wild animals for long time despite several requests from the local conscious citizens.

Accused Saiful Islam hails from of Nityanandapur village under Mathureshpur union of Kaliganj police station in Satkhira district.

He was brutally killing wild animals for a long time despite warnings from the local people. 

At one stage, local people informed the issue to the police through the official Facebook page of Bangladesh Police, said AIG Sohel Rana.

Earlier on July 26, some pictures and videos of a wild cat being beaten to death by Saiful were spread in the social media. 

After receiving the complaint, the Media and Public Relations Wing instructed   Kaliganj Police Officer in Charge Golam Mustafa to take action in this regard. On being instructed, the OC Kaliganj assigned one of his teams to take action. Sensing trouble, accused Saiful went into hiding.

However, police arrested him on Friday after conducting raids in different places for several days.

Talking to this correspondent, Inspector Golam Mustafa said, during primary interrogation, arrested Saiful admitted that he was not aware that killing wild animals was actually a crime.

Quoting Saiful, the OC said, he had killed wild animals as   the animals were eating his pigeons.

A mobile court fined Saiful Tk 5,000 for killing wild animals.
