A mobile court in Jibannagar upazila fined a man Tk 10,000 on Monday for attempting to marry off his underage daughter. The judgment was delivered by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Syedzadi Mahbuba Manjur Mowna.

The incident took place in Balihuda village of Raipur Union, where Abul Kashem was arranging the marriage of his 15-year-old daughter, Jui Akter.

Acting on a tip-off, the magistrate swiftly arrived at the scene and stopped the illegal ceremony. Kashem was fined on the spot and was also required to sign a written pledge not to arrange his daughter’s marriage before she reaches the legal age. Magistrate Mowna said that child marriage is a deeply rooted social ill, often leading to early maternal deaths and long-term health issues for girls. She called for united community action to end the practice and affirmed that such enforcement drives would continue to protect the rights of children and promote a safer future for girls.
