Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a life-term convict, who was absconding for 26 years to avoid jail, from the Amtoli area of Bogura district on Thursday night.
The arrestee is identified as Saiful Islam, 60, son of Sayer Ali, a resident of Bihar area of Shibganj upazila in Bogura district.
RAB-12 Bogura company commander (Police Super) Min Morin Hossain said, “Saiful islam was sentenced to life term jail in a case of snatching an auto-rickshaw after murdering the rickshaw puller in 1997.
Saiful was in absconding for 26 years fearing the punishment. He used to live in Dhaka as a rickshaw puller. On secret information, a team of RAB arrested him on Thursday night from the Amtoli area of Shibganj upazila, the RAB commander added.
He was later handed to the Shibganj police station for further steps, the commander added.
