The number of the country's present internet users stands at 13 crore, up from the 56 lakh 13 years ago, and of the total number, a group of people is using the internet as a means of earning.

Currently 6.5 lakh freelancers of Bangladesh are working in foreign companies staying at their home. This is the real scenario of Sheikh Hasina's digital Bangladesh.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak said this while presenting the keynote at the two-day Awami League International Conference on the Fourth Industrial Revolution organized at the Engineers Institution, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in the capital on Friday.

Palak said, on September 5, 1973, Bangabandhu accepted the membership of the International Telecommunication Union. On June 14, 1975, he established the first satellite geo-satellite station in Betbunia, Bangladesh. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established telecommunications with the whole world. His dream was that Bangladesh would have its own satellite. We had to wait 47 years to realize that dream.

Palak said that Bangabandhu's dream has been fulfilled by his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. On May 12, 2018, under the leadership of the Prime Minister's Advisor on Information and Communication Technology Sajib Wazed Joy, we launched our first satellite.

Awami League General Secretary and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader inaugurated the conference. Chairman of the subcommittee Professor Dr Md Hossain Mansur presided over the meeting while Awami League Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Md. Abdus Sabur gave the welcome speech.

As the chief guest Obaidul Quader said, “In the current state of the country, we have to think about the people, we have to save the people. Overcoming the crisis is the main task now. People are suffering, no doubt. The common man, the middle class, is suffering. Common people are suffering all over the world, not only in Bangladesh.”

“Our revolution shall focus on increasing the production of our food. It is our greatest need for survival. It is everyone's responsibility, everyone will fulfill their responsibility,” he added.

Engineer Md. Abdus Sabur said that 662 papers and posters have been submitted in 20 categories. Not only researchers from Bangladesh, researchers from Europe, America, India, Japan, China, Australia have also submitted hundreds of papers. Around 250 papers will be presented from here.

He also said that all the recommendations that will come from the conference will be submitted to the Bangladesh Awami League president, general secretary, office and research cell and various ministries of the government for effective future steps to build Sonar Bangla.
