Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has given four more days to grill seven policemen, including former officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Pradeep Kur Das in a case over the killing of retired army major Sinha M Rashed.
Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah passed the order on Monday after RAB produce three of the accused before it seeking a seven-day remand each, said investigating officer (IO) of the case Khairul Islam.
Apart from Pradeep, those who face remand are dismissed Inspector Liaquat Ali and Sub-Inspector Nanda Dulal Rakshit, Assistant Sub-Inspector Liton Mia and three constables -- Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, and Abdullah Al-Mamun.
Prior to producing the three accused -- Pradeep, Liaquat and Nanda Dulal -- in the court, they were taken to the district’s Sadar Hospital from to Cox's Bazar Jail and had their health examined. The other four were behind bars.
With Monday’s order, these policemen will now go under a second phase remand.
On July 31, Sinha was killed in firing what police said was self- defense on Cox's Bazar’s Marine Drive.
On August 5, Sinha’s sister sued seven policemen including Pradip and Liakot, in-charge of Baharchara Police Investigation Center of Teknaf.
Later RAB also arrested six others, including three Armed Police Battalion members, in connection with the case. All of 13 arrestees have so far faced remand for at least once.
IO Islam said RAB has made a significant progress investigating the case, but the suspects still need further questioning.
The policemen would go under grilling at a convenient time of the elite force, said Islam, who is an assistant director of the RAB-15.
