Maintenance activities of rural roads continue

Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) began regular maintenance activities of rural roads across the country to observed the ‘Rural Road Maintenance Month October-2020’ as part of celebration of Mujib Barsho. The maintenance activities are continuing in districts. 

In Cox’s Bazar, as part of the countrywide programme, Cox’s Bazar LGED inaugurated the ‘Rural Road Maintenance Month October-2020’ in all the upazilas of the district simultaneously on Thursday, reports our Cox’s Bazar Correspondent. 

As a main part of the programme, emulsion mixed surfacing layer was applied on the road from Ukhia Upazila’s Marine Drive to Sonar Para at the time.

Additional Chief Engineer of Chattogram Division Md. Rafiqul Islam, Project Director Md. Rezaul Bari, Executive Engineer Md. Anisur Rahman, Assistant-Engineers, Upazila Engineers, officers and employees of LGED were present at the time.

In Jamalpur, with the slogan "Mujib year's promise, Roads will be reformed", the  month-long repair and maintenance work of flood-damaged roads was inaugurated at Sarishabari upazila in the district by LCS workers with the funding of Upazila LGED, reports our Sarishabari Correspondent

The work was inaugurated on the Dasherbari Jhalupara-Char Sarishabari road in the municipal area on Thursday noon. Upazila Executive Officer Shihab Uddin Ahmed, Upazila Engineer Rakib Hasan, Deputy Assistant Engineer SM Shariful Islam, Sakhawatul Alam Mukul and others were present on behalf of the local MP at the time. 

In Jhenaidah, the LGED started repairing each and every rural roads in the current fiscal which as those roads are connected to growth centres, markets, local government institutions, farms, financial and educational institutes, social, welfare ceentres and communications to rural services providers as well, reports our Roving Correspondent

The LGED sources said  they have already repaired 20 kilometres of the rural roads in last three months and expecting repairing another 200 kilometres by the Mujibbarsho. 

To implement the maintenance programme, the department had recruited 127 destitute women of the respective villages who have been working restlessly with dyamism. They had also distributed mask and apprones among the rural maitenace women workers for ther safety to prevent the global pandemic corona virus, the sources said.
