Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister MdTajul Islam on Thursday directed the public representatives and local administration to ensure maintaining health rules, social distancing and other government guidelines at the sacrificial animal markets on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
He gave the directive at an online meeting on cattle market management, animal sacrifices at specific places and rapid removal of waste during the Eid-ul-Azha-2020 at the ministry’s conference room at the secretariat, a press release said.
He also urged everyone for buying and selling sacrificial animals through the digital platforms.
Tajul also asked to consider the things in taking decision on arranging cattle market which will be better to prevent the spread of coronavirus, whether it would be better to set up a cattle market in a large area to reduce the number of people, or to set up small markets in different places. The decision has been taken to organise a limited number of sacrificial animal markets in compliance with proper hygiene norms, he added.
A guideline has been prepared by Directorate General of Health Services on how to follow the hygiene rules at cattle markets, he said urging the people to follow the instructions of the local government department, DGHS and the government to stop the spread of coronavirus while selling and buying sacrificial animals.
The minister also called upon all, including public representatives, to remove the waste soon after sacrificing animals at designated places.
Local Government Division Senior Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed presided over the meeting while Dhaka North and South City Corporation mayors, divisional commissioners and secretaries of various ministries also joined it.
