Maintain health rules as Covid may resurge in winter: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday called upon all the people to maintain the health protocol including wearing masks as the Coronavirus might hit the country again as the winter is approaching.

"It is seen that all the countries across the globe have been experiencing Coronavirus during the winter," she said.

Referring to increasing trend of the Covid-19 in the USA, England and Europe during the winter, the Prime Minister called upon all to be careful about the cold and cough as the winter is approaching.

"I call upon all of Bangladesh to be careful as cold and cough may hit them as the winter is knocking the door," she added.

The Prime Minister said this while receiving 2645,000 blankets for the destitute from the Bangladesh Association of Bank (BAB) for her relief godown ahead of the winter season.

She joined the blanket handing- over ceremony held at Prime Minister's Office (PMO) from her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, her Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus received the blankets and a cheque of Taka 10 lakh for the PM's Relief and Welfare Fund from 37 private banks.

The Prime Minister also asked the authorities concerned to build a massive campaign across the country to make people aware about resurge in Covid-19 infection during the winter.

She assured again that all the people eligible for vaccination according to the WHO would be brought under vaccination    by mid of next year.

The vaccination of school going students will start in a day or two, she said, adding that around 80 lakh people are being vaccinated the second dose today as part of the mass vaccination marking the Prime Minister's 75th birthday.

Describing October and November as the danger period to spread the Covid-19, the  Premier urged all to be remained cautious during the period even after taking the Covid-19 jabs.

She also requested all to take Vitamin-C  enriched fruits and food items alongside maintaining the health guidelines to remain protected from the deadly virus.

The Prime Minister said her government has been able to keep continuing the wheels of the country's economy during the Coronavirus despite the entire world become stagnant due to the pandemic.

She said her government's target is to alleviate poverty and increase purchasing  capacity of the grassroots people which will help expanding markets and boost the trade and commerce.

Sheikh Hasina said her government has opened the country's bank, insurance and other organisations in the private sector as those become powerful like public organisations and can contribute to the development of the people and the nation.

She said her government will build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh as envisioned by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The Prime Minister greeted the representatives of the private banks for donating the blankets and cash for the poor, ensuring that the poor will get what they have donated.

She said, "You people are always coming forward to help the poor." 

BAB Chairman Nazrul Islam Majumder spoke at the function while representatives from other banks were also present.
