Dhallywood popular actress Mahiya Mahi filed a complaint against the co-producer Tahera Ferdous Jennifer of the film titled ‘Ashirbad’ with the president and general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association (BFAA) on Tuesday Aug 23.
Mahi has appealed for organisational action against the producer, alleging threats of false cases and defamation. In the complaint, Mahi wrote, "Recently the producer of the film ‘Ashirbad’, Tahera Ferdous Jennifer has been making various false allegations against me and making bad comments. All those comments have already gone viral on social media and mass media including YouTube. She has also threatened to file a false case against me. I am embarrassed by all these purposeful statements and sarcastic actions by producer Jennifer. I am defamed. Not only that, in all these statements of his, negative attitude towards artistes is observed in the public mind. I have been working in this industry since 2012. It is tarnishing the image of all film artistes including me. I am protesting against all of these false and controversial statements, that are being used to humiliate me.”
Appealing to take organisational action against the controversial activities of the producer, Mahi wrote, 'In such a situation, an urgent request to president and general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association (BFAA) to take organisational action against the controversial activities of Jennifer Ferdous. Along with that, I request to keep the image of the artistes intact by judging me for defamation.
It all started a week ago, producer Jennifer organised a press conference to mark the release of the film. Producer Mostafizur Rahman Manik Manik were also present there but the two lead actors of the film Mahiya Mahi and Ziaul Roshan were not present. When asked why they are not there, the producer made several allegations against them including non-cooperation in the shoot.
Roshan and Mahi held a counter press conference on August 18 in response to the producer's complaint. In Mahi's statement, several allegations against the producer including misappropriation of government grant money, mistreatment of artistes during shooting, and non-payment of remuneration to the artistes came up. After that, the producer Jennifer once again expressed anger against Mahi in various media. Finally, the actress approached the artistes' association hoping for a fair solution to the incident.
Meanwhile, producer Jennifer held a counter press conference at FDC on Tuesday evening. Producer Khorshed Alam Khosru, producer Delwar Jahan Jhantu, Shafi Uddin Shafi, Alimullah Khokon and many others were present there. In the press conference, producer Jennifer said that she will file a case against Mahiya Mahi, Roshan and director Mostafizur Rahman Manik if they do not apologise.
