National Film Award winning Cinematographer Mahfuzur Rahman Khan is no more a companion of the living world. He died on Friday at a private hospital in the capital at 12:26 am. At the time of his death, he was 70 years old. He has been awarded the National Film Award for his cinematography ten times.
His burial was completed yesterday at Azimpur Graveyard after finishing his first Namaz-e-Zanaza at the Shahi Masjid in Chawkbazar, Old Dhaka and second Namaz-e-Zanaza at his longtime workplace FDC. The death of the cinematographer has brought gloom to the film arena.
He fell ill on the night of November 25 and then his relatives brought him to the Green Life Hospital in the capital. There he was placed on life support. He was later transferred to the United Hospital at the suggestion of doctors. At dawn of December 6, the renowned cinematographer bid farewell to the world and passed over to the land of the no return.
Mahfuzur Rahman Khan's wife Nirafat Alam Shipra died of cancer on August 27, 2001. They were childless in their marriage. His residence is on Hakim Habibur Rahman Khan Road of Chawkbazar. Mahfuzur Rahman Khan was the eldest of six brothers and three sisters.
Mahfuzur Rahman was born at Lalbagh in Dhaka in the year 1949. His father, the late Hakim Irtija-ur-Rahman Khan, was a businessman.
He is famous for ‘Obhijan’, ‘Shoho Jatri’, ‘Poka Makorer Ghor Bashoti’, ‘Srabon Megher Din-e’, ‘Dui Duari’, ‘Hajar Bachhor Dhore’, ‘Amar Achhe Jal’, ‘Britter Baire’, ‘Ghetuputro Kamola’. He was awarded the National Film Award for Best Cinematographer for cinema. Mahfuzur Rahman Khan was working on the latest ‘Unmad’ movie directed by Apurba Rana. He finished the shooting of the film last November 7.
