Coronavirus vaccine production in Bangladesh will start from next year, 2022. The outstanding vaccines from the Serum Institute of India would also be available early next year.

Private Industry and Investment Adviser to the Prime Minister, Salman Fazlur Rahman made the remarks at the 'Meet the Reporters' programme organised at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity on Tuesday.

Salman F Rahman said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants the government to produce vaccines. All that requirements are to be fulfilled by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

“Bangladesh will start making vaccines next year. We have talked to all authorities concerned regarding the matter. Beximco has also started procedure of producing vaccines. Hopefully, in the next four to six months, we will be able to complete the vaccine production process. The other pharmaceuticals companies in Bangladesh are also working to produce vaccine soon,” he said.

Regarding the capital market, he said, “There are no institutional investors in the capital market of our country. About 80 pc of all transactions here are from retail or general investors. The remaining 20 percent comes from institutional investors,” he said.

He also said that the picture of the capital market of the developed world is completely opposite to that of Bangladesh. Our capital market is equity based. There is no bond market here; however, work in progress to develop it. The present chairman and commissioner are also sincere in this regard. If the bond market becomes popular, the capital market will recover, he expressed his hope.

DRU President Mursalin Nomani, General Secretary Moshiur Rahman Khan and others were present at the programme.
