Lowest new cases in 20 days

Bangladesh on Sunday registered 1,973 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours, which was the lowest since August 4 when 1,918 cases were recorded by the health department.

 The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in the daily update said 34 more patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours till Sunday 8am.

With that, the total number of cases stood at 294,598 while the death toll rose to 3,941.

Some 3,524 patients were declared free of the virus during the period, raising the total number of recoveries to 179,091.

Of the latest victims, 24 were men and ten were women.

Of them, 18 hailed from Dhaka, four from Rajshahi and Sylhet, five from Chattogram, one each from Barishal, and two from Rangpur. Thirteen of them have died in different hospitals and three at his respective residence.

 Some 10,801 samples were tested in 91 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. So far 1,442,656 samples have been tested in Bangladesh since January to detect people with the virus. Of them, 20.42 percent tested positive.

 Around 60.79 percent of patients have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.34 percent died. Currently, 47,150 people are quarantined across the country – including 1,547 newly-quarantined individuals.

 A total of 4,51,622 people have completed their quarantine course. The authorities placed 573 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 6,739 after 46,120 left.
