Lowest daily Covid deaths in over two months

Bangladesh registered 17 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Wednesday taking the death toll to 12,458. This is the lowest number of deaths in 68 days. The country recorded 16 deaths on March 18.

The country recorded 1,497 new infections taking the total number of infected people to 793,693 according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday. 

The number of fatalities has dropped significantly compared to a day earlier. The country recorded 40 deaths on Tuesday. The number of deaths due to coronavirus has been inconsistent for the last few days. 

The death rate now stands at 1.57 percent in the country, added the release.  The current positivity rate stands at 9.11 percent. The total positivity rate stands at 13.52 percent.

Among the 17 deceased, 10 were men, and 7 were women. All of the victims died in different hospitals across the country. 

Eight of the deceased hailed from Chittagong, five from Dhaka and one each from Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions. 

A total of 14,184 samples were tested across the country till 8am Wednesday. 

At least 1,056 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 733,866 and the recovery rate is 92.46 percent.  

As of Wednesday, 3,501,271people died of Covid-19 across the world and 168,572,518 have been infected so far, according to the Worldometer.
