Lowest daily Covid deaths in over 6 weeks

Bangladesh registered 5 more deaths in 24 hours from Covid-19 till 8am Wednesday bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 28,995.

This is the lowest daily death from Covid-19 in over six weeks. On January 10, three deaths were registered. The country saw a sharp increase in cases and deaths in the following days. However, the situation has recently improved towards stability.

The total number of people infected rose to 1,938,135, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.

The current positivity dropped to 5.58 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 14.59 percent.

Earlier on Tuesday, 16 people died from the virus and 1,595 people contracted the virus on that day. 

In addition, the death rate now stands at 1.50 percent in the country, added the release.

Of the five deceased, four were men and one a woman. All were from Dhaka.

A total of 23,274 samples were tested across the country till 8am Wednesday. 

Some 8,072 Covid-19 patients have recovered during this period. A total of 1,779,687 people have recovered from the virus so far and the recovery rate stands at 91.82 percent.

As of Wednesday, 5,928,159 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 428,694,632 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
