Looted arms, ammunition recovered in Satkhira

Arms and ammunitions that were looted from Shyamnagar Police Station in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district were recovered on Friday. 

The looted arms and ammunitions were recovered from a garden behind Shyamnagar Police Station. Among them, there were two shotguns, four rifles, five magazines and 51 rounds of ammunitions.

Sergeant Al Mamun of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) confirmed the matter. 

It was learnt that a group of unknown miscreants looted the arms and ammunitions from Shyamnagar Police Station when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned in the face of the anti-discriminatory student movement and the anarchy ensued afterwards all over the country.

It was learnt that a farmer from Chandipur village of Shyamnagar upazila noticed some arms when he went to cultivate a land behind the police station. Later, he informed the administration with the help of a journalist when he saw the arms.

Members of DGFI and District Special Branch (DSB) reached the spot on information and recovered the arms and ammunitions.

Meanwhile, some unknown people have returned one motorcycle, two burned motorcycle and a refrigerator of Shyamnagar Police Station in front of Shyamnagar Press Club.

Satkhira Superintendent of Police Mohammad Matiur Rahman Siddiquey said they announced throughout the area with microphone to return the looted arms and ammunitions for two days. The locals have responded to the call of police and returning the weapons by leaving them in various places.
