The Bangladesh High Commission in London will hold 30 different programmes in the UK to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The Bangladesh mission has also taken initiatives to preserve the documents related to Bangabandhu’s stopover in London before returning home in 1972.

The mission’s website was updated by including the ‘Mujib Year’ logo marking the countdown to the Birth Centenary of Bangladesh’s founding father. Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Saida Muna Tasneem said during the ‘Mujib Year’ from March 17, 2020 to March 17, 2021, they would project the life, works and ideology of Bangabandhu in front of the British and British-Bangladeshi community particularly to the younger generation.

The High Commission will organise a children festival that includes competition of essay writing and painting on the life of Bangabandhu. On January 10, 1972, Bangabandhu returned to an independent and sovereign Bangladesh after spending nine and a half months of captivity in a Pakistan jail.

He was flown in by a British Royal Air Force (RAF) aircraft from London en-route New Delhi.
