Logistics sector stakeholders focus on skill dev to face future challenges

Speakers at a stakeholder consultation of logistics sector have highlighted the importance of formalizing and upskilling the logistics workforce to face the challenge 5th industrial revolution.

They suggested inclusion of this sector in the National Skills Development Authority's or NSDA's training programmes could help increase foreign earnings by billions of dollars. The logistics sector's Industry Skills Council, or ISC, stated its readiness to assist in this effort.

These remarks came at the stakeholders’ consultation hosted by NSDA with representatives from the logistics sector, held at Agargaon on Sunday.

The event, titled "Industry Skills Council (ISC) for Skill Development, Industry Linkage, and Employment," was organized to improve skill development in the logistics sector

The consultation aimed to sensitize stakeholders in the logistics sector about the need to develop skills in line with industry demands. This includes creating relevant curriculum, training materials, and assessment frameworks. The event also focused on developing strategies to ensure the continuity of activities for the Logistics ISCs.

The NSDA has initiated this consultation as part of its effort to engage with 16 Industry Skills Councils to promote skill development, industry integration, and employment.

Rehana Parveen, executive chairman (secretary) of the NSDA, was the chief guest, while Meena Masud Uzzaman, NSDA member (Planning and Skill Standards) and joint secretary, presided over the workshop.

Special guests included Abdul Matlub Ahmad, chairman of the Logistics Sector ISC and chairman of the Nitol-Niloy Group, and Group Captain (Retd.) Md. Abul Hossain, Secretary General of the Logistics Sector ISC and Chairman of AHS Venture Limited.

The event also saw participation from senior NSDA officials and representatives from government, private organizations, and the Logistics Sector ISC, according to a press release.
