The government has decided to extend the lockdown till August 10 to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque. Health Minister Zahid Maleque and Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam were also present on the occasion.
The Liberation War Affairs Minister said the restrictions have been extended till August 10. Everyone must be vaccinated as soon as possible. All sectors’ offices will be opened from August 11. We will observe the scenarios of the days after relaxation of the restriction. He further said, “It is also necessary to keep the economy afloat. So, some export-oriented factories have already been opened. The private car will run in a limited scale. The bus and train services will be halved.”
Earlier on July 23, the government imposed strict restrictions for 14 days. Now, the ban will continue till August 5. All types of public transports, government and private offices are closed due to restrictions. All industries are also closed except food production, goods transport-storage and pharmaceuticals.
The export-oriented industries were opened from August 1. Shops and shopping malls still remain closed. It is also forbidden for people to go out without any emergency.
However, the Covid-19 situation has been deteriorating day by day. According to the latest Monday (August 2) information from the Department of Health, 246 people died of coronary heart disease in a single day. 15,989 people have been identified as infected. The Department of Health had recommended extending the ban for another 10 days.
