Strict lockdown from Monday led people to panic buying and stockpiling foods and other essential kitchen items. This abnormal purchasing may put an adverse effect on the demand and supply.
Buyers were seen flocking to different kitchen markets and super shops on Saturday as the shutdown announcement did not give any clear instructions about the restriction on kitchen markets.
However, a consumer at Rampura kitchen market said, “As the one-week shutdown may be extended to another week, we are doubting shortage of some essential commodities in the market. We are purchasing additional goods as the corona situation may deteriorate further.”
Proprietor of Halim Enterprise, grocery store, told this correspondent that, “Buyers have been gathering since the morning. My regular customers are buying rice, pulses, oil, salt, spices, garlic, onions, and ginger in large quantities today. However, the seller said the price of the goods remains the same as it was before.”
Meanwhile, while visiting to some super shops it was learnt that, customers were also seen buying health and safety protection equipment at a large scale. Panic buying of other commodities was also witnessed there.
No one will be able to get out of the house without any emergency due to the strict lockdown starting from Monday. Law enforcers will be in the field to control the movement of mass people.
People have already started buying extra rice, pulses, oil, onions and other groceries in the market so that they won’t have to go out during lockdown.
