Lockdown – a right time to arrest wanted criminals

Police high ups instructed all units of Bangladesh Police to take measures to dismantle all types of crime syndicates taking the advantages of restrictions on public movement or lock down due to the coronavirus outbreak. Police authority also emphasized on performing proper medical check-up of those arrested on suspicions.On duty police members have also been instructed to put on PPE for their safety.

The police headquarters have issued a letter to all concerned police officials on Wednesday with the instructions. Police sources claimed that being panicked, suspected criminals are also staying indoors. In such a situation there is a sharp decline in all categories of crimes in general.

On Wednesday, a meeting was held in the police headquarters in the city where recent statistics on crime revealed that the numbers of crime including murdershad decreased by around fifty percent in last one month compared to the previous months. The IGP, being happy over the situation of declining trends in the social crimes, ordered to prepare a list of hoarders of essential commodities and take measures accordingly to prevent further stockpiling of essential commodities.

Meanwhile, all types of leave applications for police personnel have been postponed unless they are of urgent nature. The IGP also discussed with some SPs through video conference and had given necessary instructions on the issue. With the deployment of additional security forces from the armed forces, law and order situation have dramatically improved and crime rates have fallen significantly. Law and order situation are completely under control of the government, several officials expressed at the meeting.

Despite satisfaction over the prevailing normal law and order situation, the activities of law enforcers have been strengthened as most of the people are staying at their homes after closing their respective offices at the instructions of the government. All office premises of important organizations have been kept under extra surveillances to prevent theft.

The IGP also instructed all police personnel to remain active and follow strict precautions while checking individuals for suspected crimes. He suggested that the police men checking suspected people should first protect themselves and then carry out his or her duties.

He also warned that there would be no excuse for any policemen to seek ‘off duty’ on the ground of fearing coronavirus. He said there are protective gears available and they should use them appropriately whenever and wherever it is necessary. He also advised all policemen to undergo medical check up if they feel having any of the symptoms of the viral infection.
