Sheikh Zahirul Islam Rezwan, 26, general secretary of Dighalia Union Chhatra League in Lohagarh upazila of Narail district was hacked to death by opposition miscreants.
The incident took place in the area of Nabganga Degree College in Dighalia of the upazila around 6:30 pm on Friday. The deceased was identified as Rezwan, son of late Saiful Islam Sheikh of Dighalia village.
Police and Rezwan's relatives said Rezwan was on his way home from Dighalia Bazar around 6:30 pm on Friday.
At that time, on reaching the area of Nabaganga Degree College west of Dighalia Bazar, the miscreants ambushed Sheikh Zahirul Islam Rezwan with a sharp weapon and injured him. The miscreants stabbed Rezwan in the left leg, left arm and head with a sharp weapon and escaped with serious injuries.
The locals rushed to the spot and rushed Rezoan to Lohagarh Hospital. The on-duty doctor sent him to Narail Sadar Hospital as his condition was critical.
He was rushed to the emergency department of Narail Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead. On-duty doctor Vibhas Sharma said the patient died before reaching the hospital.
Lohagarh Police Station OC Syed Ashiqur Rahman said efforts were being made to arrest those involved.
