Local admin recovers khas land, constructs houses for homeless

19 families getting houses as PM’s gift in first phase marking Mujib Barsho

Local administration had played a significant role to successfully recover khas (fellow) land from tgrabbers at Chitalmari upazila in Bagerhat and constructed houses to distribute among homeless people.

On the occasion of the Mujib Barsho, a total of 19 homeless and landless families are getting some of the houses as the gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

These homeless families are being provided with a two-room pucca house with a two per cent khas land settlement under government management. The construction of these houses has already been completed and now only awaiting the inauguration.

According to the office of Chitalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), the government has taken initiative to build new houses for those who are landless and homeless in category "A" and those who have land but no house in category "B" as a gift of Mujib Barsho to implement Prime Minister’s promise.A list of total 441 landless and homeless families from seven unions of Chitalmari Upazila was sent to the concerned ministry earlier. In the first phase, 19 families among those 441 were allotted land and houses.

In this regard, UNO Md. Maruful Alam said, “These houses built under close supervision of the upazila administration will be their dream house. The construction work of these houses has already been completed. Now we are just waiting for the official inauguration and the houses will then be handed over to the listed beneficiaries”.

According to sources of the UNO office, the upazila administration had to play a significant role in the construction of these houses by recovering the khas lands that were occupied by the influential people.
