In the face of resistance from the locals, the district administration has stopped the construction of a market at the Krishnapur Secondary School ground in Hat Krishnapur Union of Sadarpur Upazila in Faridpur.

The construction work of the market was stopped due to the intervention of the deputy commissioner on Monday morning. This has brought relief to the common people of the area. Established in 2011, Krishnapur Secondary School and its field are associated with local history and tradition.

Bilal Hossain Fakir, chairman of Hat Krishnapur Union, said that shops and houses were being built there with the mission of trading commissions without any tender. This will not only make the field inadequate, but if it goes behind the scenes, the empty field will be abandoned and become a sanctuary for drug addicts.

The locals protested against this. e said that 29 shops and houses had been set up on the other side of the ground and a large amount of money had been embezzled by showing a bill voucher of Tk 12 lakh 23 thousand without any tender in the name of filling the field.

Md Salehuddin Sheikh, Inspector of Education, Inspection and Audit Department, Ministry of Education, found this to be true in the on-the-spot investigation report. The Ministry of Education has asked the president and the headmaster to show cause. But again they are starting shop trade.

In this regard, the president of the school managing committee Akhtaruzzaman Titas said, “The shop was built as per the decision of the committee.  Even if you make shops, there will be a playground on the field.” In reply to a question, he said that the shop has been constructed without any tender. No bail has been taken from anyone yet.

Atul Sarkar, deputy commissioner of Faridpur said, “The commercial center could not co-exist with the playground in an educational institution. The store construction work was stopped after we found out about it. I hope that the entrepreneurs who make this structure will remove these goods soon.”
