‘Livestock a driving force to economy’

Livestock and Fisheries Minister SM Rezaul Karim has said livestock is one of the driving forces to our agricultural economy and it functions to build poverty and hunger-free country.

“Livestock sector has huge potential to create new employment, so we must carry out research using limited resource of our country as well as ensure maximum use of talent,” he said on Friday. The minister made the remarks while addressing as a chief guest at inaugural ceremony of the 2-days Annual Research Review Workshop-2020 at Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) in Savar, on the outskirts of capital Dhaka. 

The Minister appreciated BLRI’s outstanding contribution since it has been working to meet demanding for meat from the beginning.

Presided over by Dr Nathuram Sarker, Director General of Bangladesh, while Rownak Mahmud, Secretary of Fisheries and Livestock ministry, Dr Abdul Jabbar Shikder, Director General of Department of Livestock Service, Subol Bosh Moni, Additional Secretary, Shah Mohammad Imdadul Haque, addition secretary, Md Toufiqul Arif, additional secretary, along other officials of ministry and BLRI were present at the program. Addressing the event, Rawnak Mahmud BLRI is a research institute to develop livestock and poultry recourses. The ministry ready to provide all kind of assistance to implement BLRI’s plan on livestock recourses. 

He urged to the BLRI scientist to invent new varieties keeping the native varieties’ purity. Dr Nathuram Sarker said the technologies invented by BLRI are being using in country’s grassroot level after it being handed over to the Department of Livestock Service.

He urged the scientists to take the livestock sector to a new height through overcoming all limitation and inventing new technologies. A total of 60 research papers will be presented at the workshop.  Some 180 teachers, scientist, and officials will participate in the event.
