There is a severe dilemma amongst the conscious people of the country and that is whether to stay indoors to stay safe or to go out of their homes to earn a livelihood. On one side, joining their respective workplaces means to risk themselves and their families to virus infection.

On the other hand, if they stay at home avoiding joining their works means they are at risk of losing their jobs. Also, the coronavirus has left a large number of workers and employees unemployed around the world. Due to the lockdown, all kinds of financial activities including trade and industry were shut down and they have become unemployed.

With the relaxation of the lockdown, people are entering the capital and moving to rejoin their respective workplaces. There is a mindset as if the country is back on track and that the cases of coronavirus have become nil. Abroad, many Bangladeshi workers have already become unemployed and many have been forced to return to the country.

There is no guarantee that they will get a job

once the lockdown is lifted. The people who

lose their jobs are at higher risk

More than six lakh migrant workers have returned to the country since the onset of the corona infection. Expatriate income plummeted in April. Since the end of last year, the major indicators of the economy, including revenue collection, imports and exports, have been in a fragile state.

In the meantime, the hunger of people cannot be brought to leash. Thousands of people have come down onto the road to ease the lockdown. They want work. But not everyone is getting a job. We know that 85% of the total workforce of the country is engaged in informal sector. The number is around five crore 16 lakhs.

The whole population is in dire straits. There is no guarantee that they will get a job once the lockdown is lifted. The people who lose their jobs are at higher risk. Special policies must be adopted so that the number of unemployed can be slowly reduced in this post lockdown phase of the country and so that livelihood earning of the people can be brought back to normal.
