Litton eyes improvement after recent struggles

Litton Das, Bangladesh's opening batter, is going through a tricky period in his international career. However, he has emphasised the importance of not dwelling on negativity and staying focused on his immediate tasks.

"During difficult times, it's vital not to dwell on the situation too much. The more you ponder over it, the more daunting it becomes," Litton remarked in a video shared by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on social media.

"The best approach is to dedicate yourself to rigorous practice and take it seriously. In tough times, staying calm and not getting bogged down by overthinking is key. Your cricket should be your sole focus," he further stated.

This year, the right-handed batsman has scored a modest 79 runs across six T20I innings, with a strike rate of 97.53.

Litton, who is also a wicketkeeper, has participated in the last two T20 World Cups, scoring 260 runs in 13 innings with a strike rate of 113.04.

He acknowledged that the 2021 World Cup in the UAE, where Bangladesh was defeated by Scotland early on, was a disappointment, and the 2022 tournament in Australia, where Bangladesh secured victories over the Netherlands and Zimbabwe, was a relative improvement. However, Litton admitted that his own performance in T20 World Cups hasn't been satisfactory.

"We didn't achieve our goals in 2021. The 2022 conditions were different, and although we didn't triumph over the major teams, we didn't fare too badly either.

"On a personal note, I haven't performed to my potential. For example, if I scored under 100 in the last two World Cups, even scoring 101 this time would be an improvement. My aim is to surpass my previous performances."

Litton also expressed optimism about Bangladesh's prospects in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, commencing on June 2nd.

"Since the last World Cup, our T20 team has become quite well-rounded. We've won several series and have been playing good T20 cricket. Our victories weren't handed to us; we've earned them against competent teams.

"Undoubtedly, the World Cup brings additional pressure, which every team will experience. I believe if we play excellent cricket, maintain a calm and composed demeanour, and approach the game fearlessly without concerning ourselves with the results, we stand a very good chance."
