Litton dedicates Tigers' T20 triumph to ‘July Martyrs’

Bangladesh's T20 International captain, Litton Das, has dedicated his side's historic series victory over Sri Lanka to the "martyrs of the July movement" that rocked the nation last year.

Speaking at the post-match presentation in Colombo, where the Tigers secured a dramatic 2-1 series comeback, Das stated: "As this is the month of July, we want to dedicate this series win to the July martyrs."

The poignant dedication refers to the widespread student-led uprising in Bangladesh during July 2024, which ultimately led to the resignation of the then-Awami League government and saw former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina depart the country. The protests, initially against a job quota system, escalated into a broader movement marked by significant unrest and casualties.

After a challenging tour that saw them lose both the preceding One-Day International and Test series, Bangladesh demonstrated remarkable resolve in the shortest format. Following a convincing seven-wicket defeat in the opening T20I, the Tigers roared back with an emphatic 83-run victory in the second encounter – their largest T20I winning margin against any Test-playing nation. They then sealed the series with a commanding eight-wicket win in the deciding fixture, reaching their target with 21 balls to spare.
