Little girl donates coin-bank savings for Covid-19 relief

As Bangladesh like other parts of the world continues to battle the spread of coronavirus, a six-year old child girl of Thakurgaon is being lauded in the district for her noble deed of donating her entire coin-bank savings for Covid-19 relief.

Fear around the global pandemic coronavirus can bring out the worst in people, but it can also provide inspiring examples of people choosing to be kind and help needy corona-affected people. Against this backdrop, the school girl has set an example of humanity.

She is Maimuna Islam Mahi, daughter of homeopathic doctor Mazharul Islam and Roushan Ara Begum of Chanmaripara area in Thakurgaon district town. Mazharul Islam is the health affairs secretary of Ward No 8 unit of ruling Awami League.Mahi is a student of Royal Kindergarten at the area. 

Mahi on Thursday visited office of Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Thakurgaon with her penny bank and donated the entire coin-bank as well the entire amount to help the needy affected by the nationwide shutdown, imposed to contain the pandemic. She handed over savings to DC Dr KM Kamruzzaman Selim for the people who lost their livelihoods due to coronavirus.  

After accepting her coin bank, Deputy Commissioner KM Kamruzzaman Selim praised Mahi’s thinking for the helpless poor people and said that her move was exemplary. Mahi’s contribution will be appreciated during this critical moment of the country, said the Deputy Commissioner.

Mahi said, “I see people on television every day who are not able to go to work for corona. They are in a lot of trouble. So, I have given my money of coin bank so that those distressed people can spend my money.”
