Little attention to martyrs

Elaborate programmes taken to observe historic Kamanna Shaheed Day

 The people of Jhenidah are going to observe the 48th death anniversary of 27 martyrs who sacrificed their lives at Kamanna village of Sailkupa upazila in Jhenidah on November 26 in 1971.

The day will be observed tomorrow (November 26) with various programmes, including milad and doa mahfil, discussion, distribution of sweetmeats and show honour to the family members of the martyrs. Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad Bogura union command, Kamanna 27 Shahid Srmity Sangha and Bogura Union Parishad will jointly organise the day programme.

MP from Jhenidah-1 constituency and president of Jhenidah district unit Awami League Abdul Hyee is scheduled to attend the programme as chief guest. District commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad of Magura command council Mollah Nabuyat Hossain, ex commander of Jhenidah district unit command Makbul Hossain, Shailkupa upazila parishad chairman Shikder Mosharraf Hossain Sona and Upazila nirbahi officer Mohammad Saiful Islam will attend as special guests. Bogura union parishad chairman Nazrul Islam will preside over the discussion.

Locals, aged people and some freedom fighters, said that about 35 freedom fighters were killed in the two-storied tin-shed house of Madhab Bhowmik at Kamanna in the early hours of November 26. The house is now owned by some KB Zaman alias Panu Kazi.

They said a spy of the occupying forces informed the Rajakar camp at Shailkupa thana headquarters in the night about staying of the freedom fighters at Kamanna. The evil forces acting on the tip off, swooped on the innocent heroic sons sleeping in the tin-shed houses there. Name of the said Rajakar was published in a list prepared by the district administration recently, they said.

The brutal occupation Pakistani forces and their collaborators killed Momin, Kader, Shahidul Islam, Soleman, Abdur Razzaque, Abdul Wahed, Riyad, Alamgir Hossain, Abdul Motaleb, Ali Hossain, Sariful Islam, Anisur Rahman, Alimuzzaman, Tajul Islam, Maniruzzaman, Nasim, Razzaque-2, Kawser Ali, Abdul Malek, Abdul Aziz, Akbar Hossain, Selim, Hossain, Rashed, Golzer Ahmed, Adhir and Gour with gunshots and charging bayonets. Three other people including a house wife Ranga Nessa were also killed during the attack on the freedom fighters.

They said that any freedom fighters’ memorial was built or any metal road was not constructed at Kamanna after repeated assurance from political leaders including the then minister Tofayel Ahmed, Sohrab Hossain Yusuf Ali, lawmakers Nur E Alam Siddiquee and incumbent AL MP Abdul Hyee
