Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton called for expediting public health services as many people, particularly the marginalized ones, are dependent on the services.
Concerted efforts of all government and non-government organizations concerned can be the crucial means of achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) in the health sector.
Mayor Liton, who is also presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League, came up with the observation while addressing a view-sharing meeting related to the city's public health services activities at the city bhaban conference hall today as the chief guest
Ward Councilor Nizam Ul Azim, chief executive officer Dr ABM Sharif Uddin, Chief Health Officer Dr FAM Anjuman Ara Begum and Food and Sanitation Officer Ariful Haque also spoke on the occasion with Ward Councilor Nuruzzaman Tuku in the chair.
RCC Mayor Liton told the meeting that there are 12 primary healthcare centers in the city providing health services to a cross-section of people.
He instructed for strengthening monitoring to expedite the healthcare services in the centres for welfare of the service recipients.
"We want to take the Rajshahi city forward in all sectors through enhancing civic services, including health, in the days to come," he asserted.
Liton said the present government has given utmost emphasis on institutional delivery side by side with ensuring Ante natal, postnatal and neonatal cares to achieve the SDG-3 through bringing down maternal and newborn death to the stipulated figures by 2030. So, utmost emphasis should be given on creating public awareness about achieving the cherished goal within the stipulated time.
Mayor Liton said the present government under the dynamic and prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to implement the SDGs including SDG3 on "Good Health and Well-being". So, all concerned should be committed to executing the SDGs that included SDG3 through facing all the existing challenges to supplement the government endeavor.
