Listed criminal Osman Gani held with arms-ammunition in Hathazari

Osman Gani alias Mona (35), an accused in 18 criminal cases, was arrested with illegal firearms, ammunition, local weapons and cash during a joint operation conducted by the Chattogram District Detective Branch (DB) and Hathazari Police.

The information was disclosed by Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan at a press briefing held on Monday at the District Police Office in Sholoshahar.

He said acting on a tip-off, the raid was conducted at around 3:00 PM on April 26 at a five-storey building in Chikondondi Union under Hathazari Police Station. During the operation, a large quantity of illegal weapons and other equipment were recovered from the possession of the accused.

The seized items included one foreign-made 7.65 pistol with magazine, three single-barrel shotguns, 11 rounds of live 7.65 pistol ammunition, rifle bullets, 17 rounds of shotgun cartridges, locally made sharp weapons including machetes and switch knives, Tk 51,000 in cash, multiple mobile phones of different models, and other materials.

During primary interrogation, police said the arrested accused confessed to being involved in illegal arms trading, leading various criminal activities, and supplying weapons to different areas.

Police said important information was obtained regarding the involvement of two fugitive suspects, Hridoy (30) and Raju (32), based on his statements.

A regular case has been filed against the accused under relevant sections of the Arms Act, 1878, with Hathazari Model Police Station. A review of the CDMS also revealed that he has a total of 18 cases against him, including murder, robbery, narcotics, and arms charges.

Police said such operations will continue to recover illegal arms and suppress criminal activities.
