‘List of victims during BNP regime being prepared’

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said the list of the people who were victims of enforced disappearances and extra-judicial killing during the BNP regime, is being prepared.

He made these remarks while talking to the reporters at his secretariat office in the capital Dhaka after holding a meeting on the security measures during the upcoming Christmas Day and 31st night. 

The BNP on Monday announced that it will prosecute every cases of forces  disappearances, murders and tortures for the last one and a half decades. Regarding the announcement of BNP, the Home Minister said, “We are also taking a step. During the rule of BNP, thousands of people were disappeared and killed without any  trial. We are also making a list of them. It has become a mass demand.”

“During the BNP rule, valiant freedom fighters, Awami League leaders and activists were killed and disappeared across the country. We are preparing the list. There should be an investigation on everything, there should be a measure on everything. We also want it.”

About the security measures on the 31st night, the home boss said, all bars will remain closed from 6 pm on December 31 to 6 pm on January 1 due to the 31st night.

A special operation will be conducted from December 28 to 31 to prevent drug abuse. All bars will be closed for 24 hours from 31 December 6 pm to 6 pm January 1, he continued.

He also urged everyone not to explode firecrackers and crackers during the 31st night celebrations.

Christmas will be celebrated in 5,682 churches this year. Adequate security measures will be provided in all churches, he assured.
