The easy access of internet among the children is having a negative impact on their mental health. As all educational institutions have been closed since March 2020, children are spending their time sitting at home idle and surfing the internet.

Experts opine that  the negative impact of such socially damaging so called, ‘entertainment’ on the internet, suggests the need for installing parental control web-based applications to control use of the internet by adolescents.

The government has launched training programmes for school students to engage themselves in learning activities instead of spending time at home. Government will arrange several kinds of training sessions, several kinds of contest programmes and will make digital educational content for students.

Children’s access to internet should be limited

and strict monitoring by parents is needed

regarding what they do or watch on the phone

Children are now unable to socialise with other children as they have been pulled from schools and kept at their residences for a long time due to Covid 19 situation.

Training should be provided on mental health to teachers all around the country so that they can recognise and provide primary treatment to the students via online classes in case of any mental health problems.

Parents should also start interacting with their children more often so that they do not rely on internet totally. Children’s access to internet should be limited and strict monitoring by parents is needed regarding what they do or watch on the phone.

Parents can also advice and encourage children to do daily exercises which will help them reduce depression and anxiety. An all inclusive approach is needed from everyone to keep our future generation’s mental health in check.
