Two fishermen were killed in a lightning strike while fishing in haor area at Nikli in Kishoreganj. The incident took place at around 1am on Wednesday at Bara Haor near Shaharmul village in Karpasha union of Nikli upazila. The deceased have been identified as Jalhu Mia of Nikli upazila and Shafiqul. Two other fishermen named Kamrul (35) and Motaleb (45) were injured in the incident.
According to local sources, on Wednesday night, a team of 10 local fishermen took a boat to fish in Bara Haor in the border area of Nikli and Karimganj upazilas. During heavy rainfall around 1 am, a lightning hit the boat. Four fishermen named Jalhu Mia, Shafiqul, Kamrul and Motaleb were seriously injured.
After rescuing them and taking them to Nikli Upazila Health Complex, on-duty doctors declared Jalhu Mia and Shafiqul dead.
Nikli Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shamsul Alam Siddiqui confirmed the incident.
