A Lighterage vessel named MV Samuda-1 hit the Chattogram Kalurghat bridge on Tuesday. The ship was stuck with the bridge which is under renovation.
Eyewitnesses said the ship hit the bridge and got stuck due to strong current flowing from the AK Khan dock yard on the western side of the Karnaphuli river at 12:00 noon.
After receiving the news of this incident, Railway Eastern Bridge Engineer Jisan Dutta and the contractors involved in the renovation work of the bridge were inspecting the site.
Railway (East) Bridge Engineer Jisan Dutta said, “We have visited the Kalurghat Bridge. I will know about the damage later. We spoke to the ship's authorities about this.”
