Life expectancy increases

The life expectancy of Bangladeshi people has increased significantly, thanks to a number of government initiatives. According Macrotrend, a global premium research firm, the life expectancy for Bangladesh in 2020 increased by 0.39pc, comparing to previous year, to 72.72 years. At a discussion recently, Prime Ministers’ Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman said that with the sincere efforts and inclination of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and due to various steps of the government, the life expectancy at birth in the country is increasing along with their living standards.

Earlier Planning Minister MA Mannan said, “Bangladesh is now ahead of many other neighbouring countries in average life expectancy. Life expectancy in Bangladesh is higher than Pakistan.” According a document of planning commissions, per capita income would increase by six and a half times to $ 12,500 in the next 20 years, which is now $ 1909. By the time, poverty rate would also reduced to zero. The average life expectancy of the people of the country will be 80 years by 2041.

According to a report of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report said Bangladesh currently witnessing significant success in improving the quality of life of people. An unprecedented number of people have been able to rise above the minimum standard of living worldwide, relieved of starvation, disease and poverty. These development indicators indicate that there has been significant improvement in the reduction of infant mortality in terms of expected income. According to the UNDP report, about 60 million people around the world live in extreme poverty together with the backward people.
