Liberal Islamic Jote nominates transgender candidate

Liberal Islamic Jote, an alliance of six political parties, led by newly registered Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP), has nominated a transgender candidate to contest from Gazipur-5 constituency in the forthcoming Jatiya Sangsad election on Tuesday.

It was learnt analysing the candidates' list announced by Chairman of BSP and the Jote Syed Saifuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari.

The name of the candidate who has been nominated from Gazipur-5 seat by Liberal Islamic Jote is Urmi. She hails from Boroibari area in Pubail under Gazipur Sadar upazila.

Receiving the nomination, Urmi said she was grateful to the party chairman. "I will always remain beside people if I am elected in the coming Jatiya Sangsad election. I hope voters will give me a chance to remain beside them electing me in the election," she said.

Announcing the list of candidates at a press conference in Dhaka on Tuesday, Liberal Islamic Jote chairman Syed Saifuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari said, "We have 30 heavyweight candidates in the country. They will get elected if the election becomes free and fair. We have ensured the participation of all communities and classes in nominating our candidates. A transgender cadidate has also been nominated in Gazipur."
