Gone are those days when public university students had to go through serious session jam but now they do not face such situation and they are completing their honours and masters degrees on time. After passing out from their universities or higher educational institutions, they start applying for different government and private jobs. But they are now facing serious difficulties due to lengthy recruitment process especially of the government jobs including attractive public cadre service.

The authorities concerned including Public Service Commission (PSC) is taking three to four years for completing the recruitment procedures. The recruitment procedures of the 41th and 43th BCS has not been completed yet.

However, the PSC completed the recruitment procedures of 40th and 42th BCS.

On October 31, the government published the gazette of the 40th BCS appointing 1,929 candidates to government jobs after four years of the recruitment procedures. Besides, it has also completed the recruitment process of 42nd special Bangladesh Civil Service by appointing 4,000 doctors as assistant surgeons.

The authorities concerned must

come up with innovative ideas to

expedite the recruitment process

It was possible to complete the procedures as the PSC only took preliminary examinations and viva of 42nd special BCS. We cannot understand why recruitment procedure jam is prevailing in all government sectors especially PSC.

The government has a total of two lakhs 39 thousands and 15 post of BCS cadre service. But it has now only one lakh 95 thousands and 679 first class public servants while 43 thousands and 336 posts remain vacant.

To fill vacant posts in different cadres and other government jobs authorities concerned and PSC published circulars. But the authorities concerned and PSC have not finalised candidates, hence, the government could not appoint the selected candidates yet. They always say that it is a long process as they have to check, cross check and recheck the candidates and conduct their medical tests and police verifications.

The government has introduced electronic recruitment system (e-recruitment) at its all organisations in order to ensure hassle-free and faster recruitment of manpower bringing an end to the traditional cumbersome method.

It is not acceptable to linger the recruitment process showing lame excuses rather the selected candidates should be given appointment at their respective sectors. Therefore, the authorities concerned must come up with innovative ideas to expedite the recruitment process.
