Election of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association is on October 25. There is no end to the enthusiasm and excitement surrounding this election of artistes. On the one hand, as the festivity of the election prevails, some situations have also been raised which has made the current election environment murky.
Misha Sawdagar and Zayed Khan are choosing from a panel this time. Moushumi, a popular figure, is contesting as an independent candidate against Misha for the presidency. Elias Cobra is fighting against Zayed for the post of general secretary.
In the meantime, the former two members of the Artistes’ Association Md Sohail Khan and Md Hussain Liton have sent legal notice to Election Commissioner Elias Kanchan to postpone the election. Supreme Court lawyer Golam Mohammad Saifur Rahman sent the notice on behalf of these two artistes. The lawyer states 9 reasons why the election should be postponed.
However, legal notice has not yet been received by Election Commissioner Elias Kanchan.
Elias Kanchan told the Bangladesh Post, “I am the Election Commissioner. How did this issue get to the media before the notice came to me? Usually, the media should get the news after it happends. I still haven't gotten the notice. I was in the association till 8pm on October 15. Yesterday, October 16, I was in the office till 1pm. It didn't come to me until then. But the media has published that the election has been postponed due to legal notice. This is very tragic. Now we have to take legal action in this regard. There is an Appointed Barrister of the artistes’ association. Whoever has tarnished the image of the artistes’ association must be brought under the law.”
He added, “I have not yet received notice. I do not know what is written in the notice. I will give a reply after i have received it and I will take necessary actions. But, before the notice comes to us, he has to answer how it was revealed to the media. After taking the notice, I will take legal action.”
