Closure of edn institutions extended until Oct 31

The government has extended the ongoing holidays of all educational institutions in the country till October 31 considering the safety of the students amid coronavirus pandemic.

Mohammad Abul Khair, public relations officer of the Ministry of Education, confirmed the matter to Bangladesh Post on Thursday.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Wednesday said, “The favourable environment to reopen educational institutions has not been created yet. The new date will be announced later.”

“Students may be infected with virus due to reopening of schools or through other sources. But, Education Ministry will have to take the total responsibility of the infected students. Therefore, we are giving the utmost priority of the students’ life and safety,” she added.

On March 16, the government decided to keep all the educational institutions closed from March 17 to 31, aiming to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus. No formal classes have been held since that day.

Later, in several steps, the Education Ministry extended the time of the closure till October 31.

Educational activities of about four crore students from primary to tertiary level are being hampered due to coronavirus crisis.

On March 29, the government introduced online education through Sangsad TV for secondary students so that students can make up the losses due to closure of the educational institutions.

Later, on April 7, the government also started TV education for primary students, and on April 19, for technical and madrassa students.
