Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has been requested to take a step for functioning 38 benches of the High Court during the annual vacation.
Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazol made the request. He said that he talked to the Chief Justice over telephone and made the request.
“Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain constituted 38 benches for Thursday . I have requested the chief justice to continue operation of the benches during the annual vacation of the Supreme Court as the lawyers are facing acute financial crisis, while the litigant people cannot seek legal remedies due to closure of the regular court following the Covid-19 situation. The chief justice told me that he would inform after discussing the matter with other judges of the Supreme Court,” said the SCBA secretary.
The annual vacation of the Supreme Court will begin on July 18. Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain constituted four benches, which will operate during the vacation. The benches are-- the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim, the bench of Justice JBM Hasan, the bench of Justice Ashraful Islam and the bench of Justice KM Quamrul Huda.
The Supreme Court cancelled all its annual holidays for the year 2020. However, the apex court reduced its annual vacation by seven days in 2021 as part of celebrating the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
