A wave of strong reactions has erupted from the legal community across Bangladesh following derogatory remarks made about lawyers by former Member of Parliament for Barishal-4, Mejbauddin Farhad. In response, the Patuakhali District Bar Association has filed a case against him, which a court has accepted, issuing a summons order.

At a press conference held at the Patuakhali District Bar Association premises on Wednesday morning, the association's General Secretary, Advocate Sharif Md. Salahuddin, stated, "On November 5, around 3:00 PM, former MP Mejbauddin Farhad made derogatory comments about lawyers, which has hurt the dignity of the entire legal community of the country. The legal profession is an honorable one, and such rude remarks are in no way acceptable."

He further informed that the Bangladesh Bar Council has already condemned the incident and decided to take legal action. Simultaneously, bar associations in all districts of the country have taken initiatives to file cases against the accused.

Subsequently, in Patuakhali, Advocate Md. Mujibul Haque Bishwas Rana filed a case (Case No: CR 2194/25) as the plaintiff. The court has accepted the lawsuit and issued an order to summon the accused.

The Convener of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum in Patuakhali and former Government Pleader (GP), Advocate Abdul Haque Faraji, said, "The legal community has been deeply wounded by the arrogant statements of Mejbauddin Farhad. We believe the judiciary will perform its duties independently and ensure justice is served."

Regarding this matter, the President of the District Bar Association, Advocate Md. Humayun Kabir, remarked, "Although Mejbauddin Farhad has expressed regret to journalists on social media, he has not formally apologized to the Bar Council or the District Bar Association. His apology seems purposeful and a manifestation of malicious intent."
