A Dhaka court on Sunday placed one lawyer on one-day remand in a case lodged under Digital Security Act (DSA) for spreading rumours about transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19), reports BSS.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order as police produced accused advocate Abu Bakar Siddique before the court and pleaded to place him on five-day remand.

A team of CID’s cyber crime unit arrested Siddique on April 4 from North Badda area in the capital using communication technology.

Siddique from his social media account spread rumours recently about the transmission of coronavirus in the country and also spread falsehood about Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader. Police after that filed the case with Paltan Police Station under DSA.
