Law Minister Asaduzzaman has said he does not want to see any political cases pending in Satkhira, describing the district as one of the most oppressed and a district of the downtrodden.
“Satkhira is one of the most oppressed districts. I do not want to see any political cases pending here. Whoever the offender is, action will be taken against them,” he said.
He also said all necessary administrative measures would be taken to prevent drug trafficking, arms smuggling and gold smuggling.
Referring to the implementation of the July Charter, the minister said, “There are no ifs and buts here. It will be implemented according to the July Charter.”
The minister made the remarks at an exchange meeting on overall government activities, including maintaining law and order, controlling corruption and drugs, ensuring good governance, transparency and accountability, and monitoring and coordinating development activities for public welfare. The meeting was held at the Satkhira Deputy Commissioner’s conference room at 10am on Sunday.
Asaduzzaman said no “ghost cases” had been filed in Bangladesh after August 5. He said police used to be the plaintiffs in such cases and there had been no evidence of a single political “ghost case” being filed in the past two years. He also said police had not filed any such case.
The minister made the comments while speaking to journalists after a meeting on law and order, drugs and corruption monitoring in Satkhira on Sunday afternoon.
During the meeting, he heard about problems from political leaders, members of civil society and government officials and assured them of steps to resolve them.
The minister arrived at Satkhira Circuit House at 7pm on Saturday on a state visit. He exchanged greetings with party leaders and activists there and enquired about the overall situation in the district. At 9am on Sunday, he held an exchange meeting with judges in Satkhira.
Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Kawsar Aziz, Khulna Range DIG Mostafizur Rahman, Police Super Abu Saleh Mohammad Ashraful Islam, District Council Administrator Habibul Islam Habib, representatives of different political parties and local government officials and employees were present.
MPs from Satkhira-1, 2 and 3 constituencies Izzat Ullah, Muhaddis Abdul Khaleque and Robiul Basar, among others, were also present. Satkhira District BNP Convener Rahmatullah Palash and Member Secretary Abu Zahid Dablu were also present.
The minister is scheduled to leave Satkhira for Khulna after an exchange meeting with political leaders of the district at the District Shilpakala Academy at 3:30pm. #EK
