Law enforcers still unable to recover stolen 18-kg gold

Police have not been able to recover the stolen 18 kgs of gold from the vault of Benapole Customs House godawn in the last one month. 

Police failed to arrest anyone in this regard. The whole customs officers' association is upset over the matter. Initially, police, RAB, CID and PBI investigated, but later it was relaxed.

Finally, the CID have started investigating the theft of gold last seven days.

On the ground level to recovered the stolen 18 kg gold theft after breaking the safe confidential vault in Benapole Customs House. But even though the billions of Taka, dollars and gold were in vault, but the thief has taken only gold bar. The question is how the criminals broke the vault and took 18 kg of gold after crossing the four-level security guard cordon and 20 cc cameras.

Assistant Revenue Officer and vault in-charge Sahibur Sardar and other four peons were taken to interrogation after theft. However, customs commissioner Belal Hossain Chowdhury said that two peons, who were deployed in different branches of customs, were placed on the suspect list.

Various intelligence agencies including RAB, DB, CID and PBI have been conducting Benapole area for three days to unveil the mystery of theft. However, the market value of the stolen gold is Tk 8 crore, according to customs sources.

Police and customs officials believe there was insider help, as no one was seen entering the four-storey building, although it is under constant CCTV surveillance.

According to sources, no one was in office because of the official holiday including  Eid Miladunnabi on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The burglary was detected when the office opened on Monday morning.

Joint Commissioner Shahidul Islam said most of the stolen gold was kept as a safe guard in various smuggling cases. However, the CC camera was supervised by Peon Tipu Sultan and Azibar Rahman.

Period to the incident, all the CC cameras were kept workless. Immediately after joining the customs, the peons became the owners of   the huge property. 

However, customs sepoy personnel and Ansar members were also in charge of security at night. Investigators have expressed concern over how the criminals went to the store in the enough light at night.

Although there is a huge amount of gold, dollars and money in the vault, they carry only 18kg of gold. 

At Benapole Custom House, Commissioner Mohammad Belal Hossain Chowdhury said that valuable gold, dollars and money kept in the vault. But there are four levels of security. 

It is very difficult to steal gold from outside and steal it. He thinks anyone inside may be involved with the theft. Hopefully it will be possible to catch the thief soon. But Police failed to arrested any one till now. 

Moinul Haque, Jashore Superintendent of police said, that it is under investigation. CID police already  investigating. we are trying to recovered  the gold and arrested the thief.
