Law and order favourable for JS polls

CEC says

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Friday said that the law and order is good ahead of the national election.

“We have instructed the field administration to prevent irregularities, vote rigging and occupying of polling stations,” he said 

The CEC said this to reporters at a briefing after the Khulna divisional meeting at the Jashore ICT Park Auditorium on Friday. Chief

 Election Commissioner (CEC) held this meeting with deputy commissioners, superintendents, upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs), and officers-in-charge (OCs) of 10 districts of Khulna division, and Faridpur, Gopalganj and Rajbari districts of Dhaka division.

Some 290 officials were present in the meeting held at Jashore Sheikh Hasina ICT Park Auditorium at 10:00am.

CEC Habibul Awal said in the briefing that the election will be made free, fair and peaceful at any cost. The law-and-order situation in the election field is good.

He mentioned that the returning officers must perform the main duties to complete the elections properly.

The CEC said that only election officials would be allowed to be inside the polling stations. During the elections, he asked them to prevent irregularities, rigging, and the occupation of polling stations. It will be ensured that voters can exercise their franchise freely.

In response to the journalists’ questions, he said that the attacks being carried out in different places are being investigated. Appropriate actions will be taken after receiving the investigation report.

Besides, the chief election commissioner exchanged views with 32 candidates from six parliamentary constituencies of Jashore in the afternoon.

Divisional Commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif presided over the meeting organised by Khulna Divisional Commissioner's Office and Jashore district administration. Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam was the special guest.
