Last-minute preparations for Durga Puja on in Thakurgaon

Preparations are now underway in the mandaps of Thakurgaon to welcome Durga-Devi, the destroyer of evil forces. In the meantime, after the construction of idols in 485 mandaps of the district, the work of painting is going on.

Artisans, known as malakars, are busy handing over idols to all the mandaps before the sixth puja. In order to prevent the spread of the corona virus from Durgamandap, the administration is holding regular exchange of views with the people of the mandap committee.

Durga Puja is a big festival of the traditional Hindu community. When the world became unstable with the arrival of Asura, people started fighting. At that time, the arrival of Goddess Durga took place as a disaster. Therefore, the people of the traditional Hindu community of Thakurgaon have organized puja in 475 mandaps this year as every year.

The Malakars are working day and night to complete the initial work of making the idol. That is why the owners do not have time to eat now. They are now busy with the team as one of the Malakas is in charge of making multiple Mandabeb idols.

Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Idol Craftsman (Malakar) Abinash Member said, "I have got the responsibility of 9 mandaps this year. I am still busy with idol work as I started work late this time due to corona. But I will be able to hand over all the idols in 2/1 days."

Malakar Biswajit Roy said, "This time the price of etel soil, straw, paint and labour has gone up. The price of straw has gone up due to the floods. Now a worker has to pay at least 400 rupees. He is doing these things for satisfaction.

In the meantime, an exchange meeting is underway with the leaders of the district puja celebration committee organized by the district administration. Mike, lighting and arti have been banned due to corona. In particular, the priests have expressed satisfaction with the administration's ban on mics and lighting, as they will be spared the huge cost.

Ganesh Chandra Roy, a member of the Ruhia Ramnathhat Puja Mandap Committee, said the money would be used to celebrate the puja and collect sanitizers and other items.

In this regard, Additional Superintendent of Police Muhammad Kamal Hossain said, there are 475 puja mandaps in Thakurgaon district this time. Discussions have been held on how to ensure law and order situation. Security arrangements have been made following the instructions of senior officials. There will be patrol teams who will be on full-time duty to control the law and order situation.
