Satkhira District Citizens' Committee on the occasion organized a memorial meeting at the old building of Satkhira District Bar Association. Convener of the Citizens' Committee Md. Anisur Rahim presided over the commemoration meeting while Chairman of Satkhira Zila Parishad and General Secretary of District Awami League Md. Nazrul Islam spoke as the chief guest.

District Jatiya Party President Sheikh Azahar Hossain, Principal Abu Ahmed, JSD Central Committee Adviser Kazi Riaz, District Jatiya Party General Secretary Ashrafuzzaman Ashu, Satkhira Sadar Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Kohinur Islam and others were present at the time. The memorial meeting was conducted by Ali Noor Khan Babul, Joint Member Secretary of District Citizens’ Committee while Advocate Abul Kalam Azad, Member Secretary gave welcome speech.

Speakers at the commemoration meeting highlighted the life style of the late landless and peasant leader, language activist Abdur Rahim and said that there is a great lack of an honest, courageous and selfless leader like him. Today, culprits are tarnishing the image of the country through corruption.

Many people's representatives are involved in corruption today. The speakers called upon all to unite to guide the people's representatives and bureaucrats in the right direction by pushing them with the hammer. They called upon the people to learn from the life and work of the late Abdur Rahim and said that Abdur Rahim was everywhere where injustice was done. All his life he has been fighting for the rights of ordinary working people.

Other speakers of the memorial meeting said that the people of Satkhira are suffering immensely due to waterlogging today. The embankment is breaking and the tide is flowing in many areas. Hundreds of traders are being forcibly evicted in the name of digging canals in the city.

Mentioning that this injustice of a handful of people everywhere is being borne by all the speakers, the speakers said that if people like Advocate Abdur Rahim were alive, they would not be sitting at home in such a state. The speakers called upon all to unite against all unjust injustices in Satkhira. The memorial meeting called for building a strong movement in support of the 21-point demand announced by the District Citizens Committee for the development of Satkhira district.
